Our Aims
|
The Centre for Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences is a strong example of Birzeit University's committment to working with the Palestinian community. Specifically, we aim to foster links with the community through direct training of farmers, establishing links with farmers’ trade unions and NGOs on a local and international level. As well as fostering links with the community, we provide various services such as consultancy, analytical services, hazard evaluation and identification, and technical assistance in lab management.
We aim to work also with Palestinian industry and offer training in Good Management Practice (GMP) as well as Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). We offer problem identification related to quality and contamination, hazard evaluation and Occupational Health evaluation for local industry.

| | Specific Objectives of the Centre
- Monitor changes in water quality from Palestinian aquifers.
- Perform research related to the effects of pollution on the environment and people.
- Work towards the reduction in the use of pesticides, with special emphasis on their safe use and integrated pest
management.
- Participate in formulating a comprehensive plan for the environmentally sound policies and legislation.
- Exchange information and expertise with local and foreign groups concerned with environmental contamination.
- Disseminate scientific information related to environmental contamination and work to raise the environmental
consciousness for workers in various fields as well as general public.
- Monitor the quality of locally manufactured pharmaceuticals.
- Perform clinical studies on the bioequivalance and efficacy of drugs.
- Assist industrial development in areas related to our concerns aiming at helping to achieve improvement in the quality of finished products through various means including training of personnel.
