Architectural Engineering Department

Background

The Department has been established in 1989, and it’s offering a five-year program leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree in the field of Architecture. The students have the opportunity to join one of the three concentrations offered by the program through the fourth and fifth years of their study. These concentrations are in the field of: Architectural design, Urban planning and design and Landscape Architecture. The five-year program in Architecture consists of 160 credit hours including a graduation project. They are distributed as follows:

The faculty Teaching Staff of the Department consists of 5 Ph.D. holders, 5 instructors, 3 teaching assistants and 1 laboratory technician. Yet, three of the Instructors have M.Phil and M.Sc. degrees in Landscape Architecture (2 from NLH) in addition to two Ph.D. students in Landscape Architecture that are preparing their thesis at NLH, and are expected to join back the Department in 2002. All together they will form the main core that will be involved in the implementation of the proposed program for “Capacity building and regional co-operation in the field of Landscape Architecture and Planning” in Palestine.

Objectives of Education:

1. To provides the Architectural Education locally.

2. To prepare architects with appropriate understanding of local and international conditions.

3. To develop the awareness of architects and the community towards the main issues of the local architecture in Palestine.

4. To promote relations and contacts between Palestinian and international architectural institutions.
