Between June and December 2007, Four workshops
were organized by the RMRU.
The first, on June 18th
2007, presented the unit to interested members of the public within and
outside Birzeit University. In attendance, in addition to faculty and graduate
students, were members of refugee studies centers in the West Bank. The
presentation was followed by a general interactive session.
The second, September
10th, was attended by a similar public. Two papers were
presented: the first identified all local organizations working in the field,
defining their main areas of concentration. The second paper, based on
fundamental research, was a comparative study on the evolution of the collective
memory of three generations of Palestinian refugees, written by an MA student.
The third workshop was
held in October 29th, and focused on
forced
migration, featuring two papers on the subject the first paper by
Dr. Asim Khalil about the Palestinian refugees and the low in Palestine and the
second paper presented by Mr. Mohammed Aldouraedi about the migration in
Palestine . the last workshop was held in December 4th,
and focused in the Palestinian refugees issues tow papers were presented , Dr
Saleh Abdeljawad presented a paper about the Palestinian refugee since 1998,
and Dr Sharif Kananah presented his paper in Palestinian refugee and identity
.

The objectives of these workshops are is to generate debate over
Palestinian and global refugee and migration issues, in their complexity and in
a comparative light. To establish lines of communication and build bridges
between scholars, students and civil society organizations on the one hand, and
Palestinian public officials and policy-makers dealing with such issues on the
other. To make the best use of international expertise in arranging these open
workshops, to be attended by foreign specialists
