The IALIIS library is a specialized one that aims to serve the Institute’s students and teachers, scholars and researchers in political science and related subjects. The Library contains a vast number of diverse resources and references, categorized according to the system of the Library of Congress, which can be accessed through a computerized database system.

The library contains around 11,000 sources both in English and Arabic and about thirty-five periodicals regularly being fed to the library and specialized magazines as well as several documents. These resources specialize in various, diverse areas, including, among others:

  • Principles of international economics
  • International Relations theory
  • Political science of development
  • Comparative politics
  • Comparative foreign politics
  • Public administration
  • Principles of international law
  • International relations
  • International institutions
  • The diplomatic history of Palestine
  • The judicial system in international law
  • Arabs and the Arab world in the 20th C
  • The library provides researchers with the opportunity to search for sources through a database using the computerized “winsis” program, which enables them to search for the books, periodicals etc. they need easily and effectively. The institute library has been registered as a user of one of the biggest on line libraries (questia on line library) and we plan to expand this facility in the library during next year.

The library enables researchers to read inside its facilities and a borrowing system is available for both students and teachers: five books for students and seven for teachers. Photocopying services are available in the library as well. Moreover, the library staff are willing to aid researchers in searching for the necessary material by providing them with bibliographies for the subject they seek to research, whether in the IALIIS library or in other libraries in Birzeit University.

The personnel are also working on establishing a specific database for documents and another for magazines. The library is seeking to upgrade its system by placing its database on the internet, which should allow researchers to view full texts of books, magazines, documents, etc… Furthermore, it seeks to enable students and others from accessing the library contents through the university website, i.e. on the “Ritaj” page or via the IALIIS site directly.

The IALIIS library is open all week par Friday and Sunday from 8 am to 4 pm.
