Training both our staff and students provides a pillar of stability and continuity for our Institute. Not only does it provide our staff with the necessary skills to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently but also provides students with more skills, a different source of information and an opportunity to interact and share knowledge with others.
Accordingly, various groups of our graduate students have on a number of occasions participated in intensive training programs abroad, where they have added to or enhanced their skills and knowledge in areas such as peacekeeping, international environmental legislation and sustainable development. Training programs have also been organized at home, most notably in the areas of conflict resolution, negotiations and research methodology.
In the past years, several students attended training sessions in many different parts of the world, including a short training program in Rome.
This was particularly rewarding to the participants, who took advantage of the academic centers, as well as international intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations in the Italian capital. The focus of the training was on courses as vital as international environmental legislation and peacekeeping operations.
It is worth noting that students from the institute have been awarded admission and grants to attend training programs in academic centers in various places, including Athens, Greece, Braunwald, Switzerland, Florence and Rome, Italy and Uppsala, Sweden.
Yearly Training Courses
On a broader level, two types of training programs are envisaged in the near future: one for students, whose specialized skills may be furthered, at home or abroad in the diverse fields of diplomacy, international legislation, peacekeeping, negotiations and so on. Such training may be held in Jordan, Egypt and other Arab states or in Europe.
The second type of training envisaged is that offered to members of the community, including NGOs, public sector employees and employees of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC)—parliament. On the Other hand, the institute managed to hold two local training sessions. The first one was about Research methods and how to deal with Internet for research purposes. The second training session dealt with topics of research methods and thesis preparation.
Both sessions were attended by good number of interested students. The institute also aims at conducting more local training courses for its interested students in deferent related fields.
The institute is also planning to further its training sessions by concentrating on strengthening the linguistic abilities of students and thus offer them English courses.
Moreover, there will be a one or two-day long retreat each semester for teaching staff and students, taking into consideration the importance of constantly reviewing, evaluating and improving the curriculum as well as extra-curricular facilities and activities of the Institute.
During this retreat, a free, protracted and informal interplay between participants, with the participation of foreign experts, will take place.
