Training Sessions Attended by Library Staff


2007

  • Library Director has organised a presentation to the Committee of Academic Librarians in the West Bank on the relationship between eifl and the Palestinian consortium PALICO in regard to e-resources and the future of PALICO being eIFL coordinator to Palestine. This was on Wednesday the 12th of December 2007. The participants have also discussed the major activities that few libraries will organise in 2008.

  • The Library has organized its annual bookfair to sell all old, weeded and duplicate books. This was for three days from Monday-Wednesday 10-12/12/2007.

2006
  • Mahmoud Murrar and Abd al Munem Shalabi have participated in a one day workshop on "usefull free websites" for assisting library patrons to obtain usefull information from the web. This workshop was conducted in Ramallah and directed by the expert "Stephen Perry" . This was held on Monday 18/12/2006.
  • The Library Director has joined the General Assembly meeting of eIFL coordinators which was held in Amman-Jordan between the 10th and 12th of September 2006.
  • The Head of Collection Department and Library Director have participated in the Jordanian International Bookfair which was held in Amman-Jordan between 6-10/9/2006 to purchase Arabic books and all back issues of some of the Arabic journals.
  • Miss Najla Sharabati and the Library Director have participated in the IFLA annual conference which was held in Seoul-Korea between 18-26/9/2006.
  • The Library Director and all library department heads have joined a 24 hours course on " Stress Management" which was held at The Continuing Education Centre-Ramallah. The course was conducted by Miss Laila Atshan between Friday 5 May and Saturday 13 May - 2006.
  • Library Director has joined the regional meeting of eIFL coordinators which was held in Aleppo-Syria between 10-12/4/2006.
  • Suhaila Abu Gdeib , Hanadi Abu Taha , Samar Jarrar , Randa Abdalla and Jameel Sayed have attended a 5 days course on " Indexing and the use of Thesauri" which was held at Law Institute by Miss Yusra Abu Ajamieh from Saturday 18/3/2006 to Thursday 23/3/2006 with a total of 20 training hours.
  • Suhaila AbuGdeib, Najla Sharabati and Jamal Suhweil have participated in a one day workshop on : " Authority Files ". The workshop was organized by the Palestinian Library Association in cooperation with the British Council in Ramallah on Wednesday 15/2/2006.
  • Sami Naser, Asad Tom and Osama Baba have joined a five days course at Al-Quds University on " Reference and Information Services " between 11-15/2/2006.
  • Nisreen Samara and Omar Zaben attended a two days course on " Circulation Systems in Libraries " organized by Al-Quds University between 7-8/2/2006.
  • Library Director, Tagreed Shihadeh/ Head of Collection Development Department and Jamal Suhweil from Arabic Cataloging have participated in the Cairo International Book Fair to buy Arabic books. This was between the 19th and 27th of January 2006.
  • The Library Director, Taghreed Shihadeh and Jamal Suhweil have joined a two days course organized by the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) between 20-21/1/2006 on " The Strategic Planning for Information Technology in Libraries ".

2005
  • Najla Sharabati and Suhaila Abu Ghdeib have participated in the 3rd IFLA Regional meeting of Experts on an International Cataloging Code which was held in Cairo 12-14/12/2005.
  • Randa Abdalla and Sawsan Sharkasi have joinded the training session on "Descriptive Cataloging" which was held at AL-Quds University between 19-22/10/2005 and 19-21/11/2005.
  • The Library Diector has participated in the general Assembly for e IFL coordinators which was held in Vilnius/Lithuania between 26-30/10/2005.
  • Sa'adeh Sa'adeh and Jameel Alsayed have joined the training session on "collection Development" which was held at Al-Quds University between 15-19/10/2005.
  • The Library Director has participated in the 71st IFLA General Conference on " Libraries : A Voyage of Discovery" which was held in Oslo-Norway between the 14th and 18th of August 2005.
  • Mrs. Diana Sayej Naser, Mr. Labib Eid and Mr. Mahmoud Murrar participated in a two days intensive workshop on: "Library Consortion and Electronic Resources." which was held at Best Eastern Hotel in Ramallah on 13+14/7/2005.
    The workshop was organized by eIFL Group in cooperation with the British Council.
  • Suhaila Abu Ghdeib and Tagreed Shihadeh participated in training session on " communication skills" organized by Human Resources dept. at the Continuing Education Center in Ramallah, ( 6-16 of June 2005, with 20 training hours).
  • Mrs Diana Sayej-Naser/ The Library Director has participated in the Regional Kick-off meeting of EIFL (The International Consortia of Electronic Information) which was held in Cairo between 16-20/4/2005.
    Mrs. Sayej was nominated to be the coordinator for West Bank – Palestine on that consortium.
  • The administrative assistant miss Tagreed Dalou has participated in a 30 hours course on “Electronic Management and Archiving” which was held in Ramallah during March/April 2005 and organized by the Human Resources Department at BZU.

2004
  • Miss Najla Sharbati and the Library Director Mrs. Sayej Naser have participated in the 70th IFLA conference which was held in Buenos Aires-Argentina between the 21st and the 29th of August 2004.
  • Mr. Mahmoud Murrar, Mr. Kamal Hamdan, and the library Director have joined an M2L meeting which was held in Amman by the Minisis Inc team from 13-18/7/2004.
    They have also attended an advanced course on " Indexing and the use of the Thesaures" from 19-21-7/2004. The course was held at Shoman Foundation - Amman.
  • The Library Director has participated in the International Seminar on " Vision and Innovation : the key to Developing Tomorrow's Library and Information Services."The seminar was held in London and Bretby/Great Britain between 13-20/3/2004.
  • Acourse on using M2L application was held in Amman at Shoman's Foundation from 23-29/2/2004. There were twelve participants from Main Library and Branch Libraries.
    Main Library attendees were : Sami Nasir,  Ghazi Obeid,  Samar Jarar,  Nahida Nasir,  Eman Jiries,  Suheila Abu Ghdeib and the Library Director Mrs. Diana Sayej Naser.
  • Mr Jamal Suhweil attended the Cairo International Bookfair and purchased Books in Arabic.This was between 22-29/1/2004.

2003
  • Mr. Labib Eid/Head of Users Services Department and Mr. Asad Tom/Computer Engineer participated in the workshop on "The Virtual Library" which was held in Arles/France from 17/11/2003 to 20/11/2003.
  • Abdul Majid Quod,  Sulaiman Musallam,  Sa'adeh,  Rana ,  Haifa Ramaha attended a course on " Microsoft Windows " which was held by the Continuing Education Department from June to July 2003 with a total of 36 hours
  • Abd Al Munem Shalabi , Tagreed Al-Dalou , Hanadi Ab Taha attended a course on " Microsoft Excell" was held by the Continuing Education Department from May to June 2003 with a total of 18 hours .
  • Mrs. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib / Acting Head of Cataloging, Classification and Indexing has attended a course on "Proposal Writing". The course was organized by the Continuing Education Department / Ramallah, and was held in 11 sessions , 3 hours each (33 hours) , starting on the 14th of April until the 29th of May. She has attended another workshop about Microsfoft Project program, and it was also held at the Continuing Education Department / Ramallah on Sundays (25th of May and 1st of June).
  • Library Programmer, Mr. Mahmoud Murrar and Acting Head of Collection Development, Miss Taghreed Shihadeh participated in a Minisis course given by Minisis,Inc. experts in Amman, Jordan at the University of Philadelphia. The course was held between 29/04 -06/05/2003.

  • Miss Taghreed Shihadeh, Miss Nahida Nasir, and the Library Director participated in the AFLI Conference which was held in Beirut - Lebanon between 29/10/2002 and 1/11/2002 under the title: "Managing Libraries in the Digital World."
  • Library Director Mrs. Diana Sayej-Naser has participated in the 68th Conference of IFLA which was held in Glasgow - Great Britain between 18-24/08/2002 under the title: "Libraries for life: Democracy, diversity, delivery."
  • Library Programmer Mr. Mahmoud Murrar has participated in a Minisis course given by Minisis,Inc. experts in Amman, Jordan at Abdul-Hameed Shoman Foundation. The course was held between 09/09 -18/09/2002.
  • Mrs. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib / Acting Head of Cataloging, Classification and Indexing, and Iman Jiries from Collection Development Dept. have participated in the Symposium held in Damascus - Syria between 27/6-6/7/2002 under the title: "Documentation and Archiving in the Arab World".

2001
  • Mr. Labib Eid / The Head of Information Services has attended a course on "Proposal Writing" between 19/11-22/11/2001. The course was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education & The British Council and was held at the latter in Ramallah.
  • The Library Director, Taghreed Shehadeh, and Nahida Naser have participated in the AFLI Conference which was held in Sharjah - UAE between the 5th-8th of November 2001 under the title : "Libraries in the Arab World in the 3rd Millinium".
  • Eman Jiries from the Collection Development Dept. participated in "The 12th Conference on Information Technology" which was held in Baghdad, Iraq between 13-21 April 2001.
  • Taghreed Dalou and Asad Tom have attended a 50 hours course on "Web Design and Development Program" which was held by the Computer Center at Birzeit University during February and March 2001.
  • Sima Qamhiya has participated in a five day course on "Project Management" which was organized by PASSIA between the 28th of February and the 4th of March 2001.

2000
  • A presentation on : "The Provision of Information Support to Distance Learners." was held at Al-Bireh Municipality by the British Council on Wednesday the 12th of July 2000 from 9:30-12:00. Six from the Library participated; they are : Maureen, Suhaila, Gazi, Asad, Aida, and Diana.
  • Mr. Labib Eid / Head of Information services has attended a course on : "Marketing Information Services," which was held in the British Council - Ramallah from the 21st until the 24th of June 2000.

1999
  • Rania Barakat, Jamal Suhweil, Sami Naser and Abdel Munim Shalabi have participated in a workshop on the "Electronic library" which was held in Ramallah on 15/12/1999.
  • Library Programmer and Library Director participated in the International Conference of Minisis users "Mum 99" which was held in Cairo from 28/11-1/12/1999.
  • Library Director attended a 4 days course on Library Management which was held in cooperation with the British Council and the Ministry of Higher Education at the British Council in Ramallah from 16-19 November 1999.
  • Asad Tom from the Reference Department attended a one day workshop held by Swets at Abu Deis College on Wednesday 10th of November 1999.
  • Miss Najla Sharabati, Miss Taghreed Shehadeh and the Library Director have participated in the Annual Conference of the Arab Federation of Library Associations which was held in Tunisia between 6-13/10/1999 under the title : "The Electronic Library and Information Technology in Libraries in the Arab Countries and the 21st Century".
  • Head of Reference Department, Mr. Labib Eid, and the programmer, Mr. Mahmoud Murrar, have participated in the course held at Birzeit by Springer-Verlag in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, on using the Web to get fulltext data. The course was held on 26 and 27th of August, 1999.
  • The Head of Collection Development Mrs. Hadad and the Library Director attended a one day workshop on "Open Learning and library services " which was held in the Polytechnic Institute - Hebron in coordination with the British Council on Tuesday the 27th of July, 1999.
  • The Library Director, attended a one day workshop at al-Quds University on Monday the 12th of July 1999 on using the Chemical Abstracts through OCLC Electronic Services.
  • Suhaila Abu Ghdeib & Iman Abdallah have participated in the Symposium on School Libraries which was held in the Ministry of Education in Ramallah on the 15th & 16th of March 1999.
  • Mahmoud Murrar / The programmer in the library has participated in a two days workshop on the union catalog which took place in Birzeit University on the 22nd & 23rd of February 1999.

1998
  • The Library Director Mrs. Diana Sayej-Naser has participated in the followings:
    • A 3 weeks International Program on "Information Highway" in the United States through USIS in Jerusalem from 3-27/8/1998.
    • An International Conference on "Disaster and After" in Bristol-Britain from 4-7/9/1998 & submitted a paper on Information Services During The Intifada.
    • A Visit Program to university libraries in Britain from 8-10/9/1998 and the British Library Association.
  • Library director and Head of Information Services , Mr. Labib Eid attended a course on library management which was held in the Ministry of Higher Education between the 18-20/6/1998.
  • Library director, Mrs. Diana Sayej-Nasir has participated in the workshop entitled " INAUGURATION OF THE ARAB UNIVERSITIES LIBRARY AND INFORMATION NETWORK " (Arab Link) which took place in Amman - Jordan on Wednesday May 13,1998. The workshop was held in coordination between the World University Consortium (WUC) and the Association of Arab Universities (AARU).
  • Musa Nasir , Taghreed Shehadeh and Nahida Nasir attended the " 5th symposium on libraries in larger Syria " which was held in Damascus-Syria between 16-22/5/1998.
  • A course was held in the library entitled : "Indexing and using the Thesaurus" , Eleven staff members participated in the course which took place in the library conference room between the 4th and the 9th of May 1998 , after which the participants were honored official certificates.
