The
Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers academic programs leading
to the BA and MA degrees in sociology. The MA program was launched
in September 1998, and currently has over fifty students. The
undergraduate program has two hundred seventy students.
1.A grade of 70 or above in the following courses:Sociology 131, and Sociology 233 or Sociology 234
2.Approval by the department
Requirements for the Major in Sociology
Students are required to
complete a minimum of 57 credit hours from courses offered by the
department (including cross-listed courses from other departments) as
follows:
3.At least 18 credit hours from elective courses offered by
the department, to include at least 3 credithours in anthropology (Women’s Studies 232 is included within
these elective courses)
Requirements for
the Minor in Sociology
Students are required to complete at
least 18-19 credit hours from courses offered by the department, as
follows:
1.Sociology 131, 233, 236, 238, 237 OR 341
2.At least 3 credit hours from elective courses offered by the
department
1.First degree (equivalent to the BA) from a university recognized
by BirzeitUniversity.
2.First degree in
sociology or anthropology.Holders
of degrees in other fields may be admitted in special circumstances but
may be required to complete preparatory courses from the BA program in
sociology.
3.Applicants are required to sit for an English language
proficiency examination.
